Law-enforcement requests

We do not hand out customer or advertiser information on a casual request. Official requests must be sent to the contact below. Do not send them to [email protected], and do not send account cancellations or ordinary complaints to the compliance address.

What to send

Send the legal process that applies to the records you want. Depending on the record and the jurisdiction, that may be a subpoena, court order, search warrant, or another compulsory process. We do not promise that every request requires a subpoena.

We may ask for an authenticated copy of the process and for enough detail to find the account. We disclose what the process requires, and we object where the law allows an objection.

Preservation

How long we keep records is set out in the privacy policy. We do not promise that any given listing, log, or message still exists. If we receive a preservation request that the law requires us to honor, we preserve the data described in that request for the period the law requires.

Notice to the user

Where the law allows, we may tell the affected user before we comply with a civil or administrative subpoena, and we may wait up to ten days so the user can ask a court to quash it. We do not notify the user when the process forbids notice, or in an emergency where notice would create a risk of harm.

Other disclosure

We may also disclose information when we believe it is reasonably necessary to:

  • comply with the law;
  • investigate fraud, account takeover, or a listing that violates the trafficking and minors rules;
  • protect the security of the site;
  • protect a person from serious harm.
